WETHERSFIELD — The Sheehan boys lacrosse team followed up on their rivalry win over Lyman Hall with an 11-7 non-conference victory Wednesday over Wethersfield.
Sheehan led throughout, extending a 4-2 first-quarter lead to 9-3 by halftime.
Jimmy Stratton had another big game for the Titans with two goals and three assists. Luke Rutkowski found the net three times and dished one assist. His brother Beau Rutkowski scored one goal and set up two.
Max Festa and Lorenzo DeFilio connected for two goals apiece. Eddie Laudano scored one and Jacob Shook secured 14 saves.
The win was the third straight for the T-Men, who stand at 8-3.Girls lacrosse
Sheehan 17, North Haven 9: The Titans posted the Senior Day win behind five goals from Allie Ottochian and three from Lyndsey Bunnell.
Ottochian also had five assists for a 10-point night.
Jayna MacKenzie and Samantha Brown added two goals apiece as the Lady Titans improved to 9-2 with their third straight win.Boys tennis
Lyman Hall 7, East Haven 0: The Trojans hit the 10-win mark with the SCC sweep at Doolittle Park.
LH (10-3) dominated, winning everything in straight sets, including 6-0, 6-0 by No. 1 singles players Jackson Mailhot and No. 2 Brady Campbell.
Anshul Patel was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 3. Caiden McManus prevailed 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.
Joe Marrone and Nathan Rininger took care of No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 doubles went to Kevin Duong and Sean Collingham 6-3, 6-3.
East Haven (2-9) forfeited to Parth Patel and Pablo Dominguez at No. 3.
Cheshire 4, Jonathan Law 3: The Rams (5-5) posted their fourth straight win with the SCC decision in Milford.
Cheshire won the close ones as well as the routs. Tyler Tan rallied to a 3-6, 7-6, 10-7 victory at No. 3 singles. Will Borland and Luke Hayden, the No. 2 doubles tandem, pulled out a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 decision.
No. 1 Utsav Subramani and No. 2 Andrew Gershfeld cruised in their singles matches 6-0, 6-0.
Simsbury 4, Southington 3: The Blue Knights took the top matches in this CCC West matchup in Simsbury, including a pair of nip-and-tuck doubles affairs settled by a super-tiebreaker.
Ray Hardy and Matt Jagos battled to a 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 victory at No. 1. Ethan Germain and Luke Howes were 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 winners at No. 2.
The No. 1 singles match went to Southington’s Sam Raniolo 6-3, 6-4.
Now 6-3, the Blue Knights host Cheshire on Friday.Boys volleyball
Maloney 3, Putnam 0: Put another W in the books for the Spartans, who posted their third straight victory in the non-conference bout in Meriden.
Maloney improved to 5-6 overall by game scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-17.
Onil Carrion ran a well-balanced offense, dishing 20 assists. Xavian Brown buried 10 kills, while Adnel Torres knocked down eight and Dev Patel planted six.
The Spartans also served well. Carrion connected on six aces and Daniel Cruz collected five. Brown, Torres and Patel had three apiece.
Cheshire 3, Amity 0: Dino Spanolios of Amity might have felt like the Little Dutch Boy. The Spartans’ libero got to 25 digs and yet the Rams still found plenty of holes in the Amity defense to post a 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 SCC sweep in Cheshire.
Tim Nugent kicked out 29 assists as the Rams improved to 10-2. Jake Miller and Will Allen were the top beneficiaries with nine kills apiece.
Nugent and Allen also served three aces each to knock Amity to 5-9.Baseball
Sheehan: The Titans posted an unusual doubleheader sweep Tuesday, winning at home 15-4 over Wright Tech in five innings, then hopping on a bus, driving to Shelton and beating the Gaels 5-3.
The victories extended Sheehan’s win streak to six and put the club at 9-4.
Against Wright Tech, a team coached by former Sheehan player Brian Colantonio, the Titans plated five runs in each of the first three innings behind the hitting of Ryan Carmen, Tyler Venoit and Braden Golden.
Golden also pitched, combining on a five-hitter with Jack Colonese. Together, they struck out 11.
The SCC game in Shelton featured a furious finish. Sheehan extended a 3-1 lead to 5-1 in the top of the seventh on a two-run single by Aiden Caraballo.
The cushion proved crucial when Shelton pushed across two runs in the home half.
Starter Matt Moconyi and relievers Andry Guy and Todd Grammatico combined on a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Sheehan never trailed. Josh Mikulski doubled and scored on a Charles Ennis base hit in the first inning.
With the game tied at 1-1, the Titans reclaimed the lead with two runs in the fifth. Tony Sutera was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on an error. Chris Barkasy stole home when the Titans ran a fake steal of second with runners at the corners.Softball
Southington 12, Northwest Catholic 0 (5 inn.): Kayleigh O’Connor and Elyse Picard belted home runs and four pitchers combined on a no-hitter as the Blue Knights improved to 10-0 on Senior Day.
Sam Sullivan got the start, struck out four in two innings, and was followed by Dom Gaudio, Stella Blanchard and Maddie Furniss. Each reliever struck out three.
Northwest Catholic mustered just one baserunner on a misplayed ball on a dribbler down the third-base line.
Along with the home runs from O’Connor (2-for-3) and Picard (2-for-2), the Blue Knights got triples from Ashlyn Desaulniers (3-for-3), Lily Kenefick and Mallory Rohon, who ended the game via mercy rule with her three-bagger.
Picard also tripled and drove in three runs. Gaudio and Kate Griffin doubled.
