TUESDAY CROSS COUNTRY: The renewable resource that is ‘Sola Energy’

MERIDEN — You better believe, on an afternoon in which the sun peeped back out for the first time in four days, we’re putting “Sola Energy” back into the headlines.

On a day when Platt senior runner Erin Sola won her second cross country race of the season, could there be any doubt?

With a time of 21:45 over the 3.1-mile course at Veterans Memorial Park in Middletown, Sola finished first among the girls in a CCC South tri-meet between Platt, Berlin and host Middletown.

Without enough runners to score, the Lady Panthers did drop both ends of the meet to the Redcoats and Blue Dragons, but Sola had another medal to add to the one she earned two weeks ago at Hubbard Park against Plainville and Bristol Central.

Tuesday’s boys race was won by Ryan Markey of Berlin in 19:27. The Blue Dragons captured the overall meet by out-pointing both the Redcoats (26-30) and Panthers (22-34).

Wilcox Tech: The Wildcats fell short to Platt Tech 22-33 in a CTC dual meet at Milford’s Eisenhower Park.

The host Panthers took the top two spots, plus 4th and 5th, to earn the victory.

Devon Diaz of Wilcox placed third in 21:56. The Wildcats also took places 6-9 behind Luke Frommelt (23:40), Patrick Sullivan (23:49), Azari Yearwood (24:32) and Mike Zacchia (24:42).

The Wildcats now stand at 2-3.
