New finance director
Congratulations to my friend Jim Bowes for being named Southington’s Finance Director. Jim knows government finance well and will once again be a tremendous benefit to his hometown. I had the great opportunity to work in government as a town councilor when Jim was Wallingford’s comptroller. I found Jim to be very astute, knowledgeable and highly professional in managing our town’s funds. I cannot count the number of times I would find myself in Jim’s office asking questions specific to government accounting practices (GAP). In that time, I really got to know Jim as a person and found that aside from his extraordinarily accounting skills, Jim had an incredible sense of humor.
Southington made a good choice in naming Jim Bowes to the position of finance director and I wish you all the very best of luck. I guess this new appointment will sideline Jim from playing golf in the near future. Groundskeepers at the local courses just breathed a sigh of relief. FORE!
John Sullivan, WallingfordDemocracy on the ballot
Republicans say Trump’s name isn’t on the ballot this year. Here’s what is on the ballot: our democracy. Trump expects every politician who receives his endorsement this year to help him in 2024 to complete the coup he failed at on January 6, 2021. Once in office, Trump will use the government to punish anyone who opposed him. Also, women’s right to choose. If Republicans win control of the General Assembly they will pass a ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother. Vote for Democrats for every office on the ballot.
