WALLINGFORD — A New Britain man faces charges after police investigated multiple complaints of a “peeping tom” in 2020 and 2021.

Craig Stephens, 40, of 48 Lincoln St., New Britain, was charged Jan. 19 with voyeurism, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

In 2020 and 2021 police received multiple complaints of a “peeping tom” who was looking in windows in town, Sgt. Stephen Jaques said in a statement Monday. On July 23, 2021 police responded to a home on Clifton Street for a report of a person looking inside a window, Jaques said. The resident said they saw a person outside their window in the backyard.

Officers found concrete blocks stacked near the window where the resident saw the person looking in, Jaques said. Police found several pieces of evidence nearby and the case was transferred to the detective division.

A lengthy investigation, which included several search warrants, developed probable cause to arrest Stephens, police said. Police noted Stephens was arrested by Canton police on Oct. 5, 2021 in a “similar instance,” Jaques said.

Stephens was released on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 2.
