WALLINGFORD — Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire that started in the basement of a Pierson Drive home Monday.

Fire Lt. Jeff Dingler said firefighters received a call reporting the fire at 84 Pierson Drive around 4 p.m. from the homeowner, who had just come home. Firefighters arriving saw visible smoke in the basement and entered the home to begin an interior attack, Dingler said.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down in about 15 minutes, Dingler said.

The basement also sustained water damage. There was smoke damage throughout the residence.

While the building wasn't destroyed, its occupants have been temporarily displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
