Things to know this week include an update by the census committee in Meriden, Narcan and suicide prevention training in Wallingford and a liquor permit application for Plan B burger bar’s newest location coming to Southington.

1.Narcan, suicide prevention training in Wallingford

A free Narcan and suicide prevention training session is slated for 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Spanish Community of Wallingford, 284 Washington St., Wallingford. Register by phone at 203-927-7566 or email programdirector@CBWLFD.org. Walk-ins welcome.

2.Census committee in Meriden

The Meriden Census Count Committee will get an update from Mike Burke of the Census Bureau when it meets Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers in City Hall. 

3.Plan B liquor permit in Southington

Plan B restaurant owners working to renovate a former Bertucci’s location at 20 Spring St. in Southington are looking to get a liquor permit. It’ll be the seventh Plan b location in the state.

The Zoning Board of Appeals will consider allowing liquor service at its meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at the John Weichsel Municipal Center, 200 N. Main St.

4.Meriden golf course panel to consider lease

The Meriden Public Golf Course Commission meets Monday to discuss Violi’s lease extension, a building update and budget meeting with the city manager. The panel meets at the Hunter Golf Course Club House on Westfield Road at 6:30 p.m.

5.Ribbon-cutting for Easterseals Children’s Academy

A ribbon cutting will be at Easterseals Children’s Academy, 125 Broad Street Meriden on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Midstate Chamber of Commerce.

6.Wallingford BOE talks curriculum, policy

The Wallingford Board of Education is slated to discuss and possibly approve new curriculum and courses, new policies and regulations, and several administrative reports at its meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Town Hall council chambers.

7.Wallingford EDC to discuss billboards  

The Wallingford Economic Development Commission marketing committee is slated to discuss messaging of, and additional locations for, billboards at its meeting scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wallingford Town Hall, Room 205.

8.Southington council considers traffic ordinance

The Southington Town Council meets Monday at 7 p.m. at the John Weichsel Municipal Center, 200 N. Main St.

The council will be hearing presentations on the town’s economic development efforts and a proposed traffic block ordinance to address delivery trucks blocking traffic.

The council will set a public hearing on the proposed ordinance.

9.Cheshire council discusses legislative agenda

The Cheshire Town Council will convene a special meeting Tuesday night at Town Hall.

The agenda for the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., lists a discussion of the council's legislative recommendations with the town's State House delegation, the appointment of a town historian and other appointments to town boards and commissions as items it will take up.
