Meriden man charged with assaulting Wallingford police officers

WALLINGFORD — A 30-year-old Meriden man faces multiple charges after police say he assaulted two police officers near a North Colony Street auto shop Wednesday night.

Ulpiano Nieves, 30, of 91 Britannia St., Meriden, faces two counts of assaulting officers, one count of breach of peace, three counts of third-degree criminal mischief and one count of second-degree criminal mischief.

Nieves was being held on $100,000 bond..

Police were dispatched to Cerrito's Auto Sales, 280 N. Colony St., around 6:45 p.m. Police said one of the injured officers was treated at an area hospital.
