Pickup truck crashes into Wallingford nail salon

Pickup truck crashes into Wallingford nail salon

WALLINGFORD — A pickup truck crashed into a nail salon on East Center Street Thursday morning.

There were no reported injuries. Four employees were in the salon at the time, along with two customers.

The crash was reported about 10:30 a.m. at Sun Nails Salon, 826 E. Center St. The pickup went through the storefront, shattering the large plate glass window and creating a hole in the brick building, which is home to several businesses.

The pickup was removed from the building by noon. The storefront was cordoned off with yellow tape and later boarded up.

The salon is owned by Jenny Rhee, who took over the business only two weeks ago.

“I heard a big noise and like a crushing sound like thunder,” said Jenny Rhee’s husband Andy Rhee, a manager. “Almost like the building would collapse."

Andy Rhee said the salon will remain closed until repairs can be made.

"The weekend’s a big loss," he said. "We worry about that.”

Keri Logan, owner of Keri’s Sweet Creations in the same plaza, said she ran outside after hearing a loud crash and saw an elderly man in a pickup truck halfway into the salon.

“I guess he hit the gas a little to hard and it went right through the front of the salon,” she said.

Police could not immediately provide details on the crash.
