A closer look at the school budget

The education budget passed by voters on May 24 means major changes are coming to RSD13.

At the high school, 3.5 teaching jobs and one security position will be eliminated. At the middle school, three teaching positions and two half-time tutoring jobs will be cut. And at the elementary school level, one science specialist is retiring, and that position will not be filled.

Items in the capital budget that will be funded are: Turf Replacement (CRHS) $13,750, Unanticipated Repairs & Maintenance $100,000, Brick Repair & Replacement (Strong) $80,000, Pickett Lane Sprinkler-Pumphouse (Central Office, Strong, CRHS) $325,000, and Athletic Facility Upgrades (CRHS) $180,000.

The approved budget for the 2022-2023 school year is $37,915,970.

Local voters okayed that total at a second referendum in May. The original RSD13 budget for the upcoming year – $38,489,206 – was defeated at referendum.
