Things to know in the coming week include the cost of replacing Community Pool in Wallingford, an update on American Rescue Plan Act funding in Meriden and a potential change in the way projects are put out to bid in Southington. 

Designs for new schools in Cheshire will also be outlined. 

Here’s our complete list of eight things to know in the coming week.

The Wallingford Town Council will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Town Hall. Its agenda includes a discussion of the cost of replacing the Community Pool, which has been brought up at recent meetings, including during a discussion of the Building Maintenance Committee’s report of problems and safety hazards at town-owned parks, buildings and properties.

The council also will discuss purchasing 40 acres of land at 138 Williams Road, and could approve a business tax incentive program to attract more businesses to town.

The American Rescue Plan Steering Committee will receive an update on current project funding during its meeting on Monday in Room 206, Council Chambers, City Hall at 6 p.m. 

The Building Maintenance Committee will hold a special meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in room 215 at Town Hall. The committee will discuss problems found at the old train station and at Center Street Cemetery during its inspection of town-owned properties and will consider the creation of a Facebook page.

On Monday, the Planning and Zoning Commission agenda has several items regarding the Stone Bridge Crossing development in Cheshire’s north end. Developers are seeking clarification as to the boundaries of the Interchange Special Development District in which the project lies. A recent meeting of the Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission considered the applications as well, hearing from representatives that no changes to the upland review area or impacts to the wetlands were planned. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in Town Council chambers.

Southington’s leaders will consider a change to the town’s preferred bidding ordinance, a law intended to direct town work to local companies if bids are otherwise comparable.

The Town Council may adjust the language of the ordinance to accommodate businesses that are local but don’t have their name on local property.

The council plans to meet on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the John Weichsel Municipal Center, 200 N. Main St.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. Tecton architects will be at Chapman Elementary for a presentation about the schematic designs for the new north end school. A question and answer discussion will follow.

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at Norton Elementary, Tecton will be on hand to discuss the future Norton building. A brief presentation will be followed by a q&a opportunity.

On Friday, at 5 p.m., Ball & Socket Arts and Town representatives host a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the opening of a new parking lot and additional access to the Farmington Canal Linear Trail.

The Library Board of Trustees will meet Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Meriden Public Library, 105 Miller St. to discuss among other things the creation of a mural on the Catlin Street addition wall.
