SOUTHINGTON — A local woman faces charges, including DUI, following an incident outside a restaurant Sunday.
Colleen Herrera, 41, of 18 Franklin St., was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility, unsafe backing, and three counts each of risk of injury to a child and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Police responded to Spartan II, 930 Meriden-Waterbury Road, around 8:50 p.m. for a report of an accident involving Herrera in the parking lot, Lt. Keith Egan said in a statement Tuesday.
Witnesses told police Herrera ordered food and drank two glasses of wine while inside the restaurant. After finishing, she went outside and stood by her vehicle where her young children had been left inside for 10 to 20 minutes, Egan said. Witnesses became concerned about her driving and ordered a ride share vehicle.
Before the ride share vehicle arrived, Herrera got into her vehicle, backed up and struck a parked car, Egan said. A witness was then able to remove the keys from her ignition.
Her children were placed in the care of a relative and Herrera was taken into custody. She was later released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Oct. 4.
