SOUTHINGTON — A luxury log colonial on five acres is for sale in Marion for $650,000.

The custom-built house on Trolley Ridge is unique in Southington and has the amenities and feel of a vacation home, according to listing agent Mela Veltri Case

“It’s totally different, not typical of Southington,” Case said. “It’s almost like you’re way on vacation.”

The 4,400 square foot house has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. It was built in 2001 by Northeastern Log Homes, a Maine-based company that specializes in cabin designs.

The family and dining rooms open into the kitchen under a cathedral ceiling and second-floor balcony. The interior is pine with exposed beams.

“It’s a really cool interior. It’s nice and open,” Case said.

The family room also has a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace.

While a log house, she said it was built with modern efficiencies in mind. Large windows offer passive solar heating. An enclosed four-season room is heated as well.

The house is also equipped with a generator.

The five-acre property is on Trolley Ridge, a cul-de-sac off Route 322. It’s tucked away and could serve as a second home, according to Case.

“We’re also thinking it could be attractive for somebody who wants to escape to the country from the city,” she said.

Views, particularly from the back of the house, are “picturesque,” she said.

There’s an above-ground pool next to the house surrounded by a deck.

An oversized garage attached to the house can fit three cars.

The finished lower level could function as an in-law apartment, Case said, with walk-in access and a kitchenette.

Case can be reached at 203-209-8403.
