PLAINVILLE — A local woman was sentenced to four years in prison in a 2017 incident in which a 59-year-old woman died after being run over.
Justine Cusick, 35, of 92 W. Main St., was charged Oct. 29, 2017 with second-degree manslaughter, misconduct with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs and or alcohol, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault and unsafe backing. In January, Cusick pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle. On March 28, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended after four years, followed by three years’ probation.
On Oct. 28, 2017, police found Deborah Sheak, 59, unconscious and pinned underneath a running Nissan Altima at 14 Bradley St., according to a police report. Sheak was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital several hours later. Another woman struck by the car suffered minor injuries to her legs.
Police identified Cusick as the driver and detained her at the scene, the report said.
Cusick received a suspended sentence and probation after being convicted of two counts of driving under the influence in 2003, according to a court official.
