HARTFORD — Visiting the Convention Center last weekend was a trip back in time as thousands from all over the country came to see some of their favorite 1990s sitcom stars and other celebrities from the era.
More than 40 celebrity guests — including actors from “Boy Meets World,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” and the iconic “Full House” — were available for autographs and photos.
Brian Troiano, a North Haven resident wearing a Spice Girls T-shirt, was waiting in line to see Sabrina the Teenage Witch cast member Caroline Rhea.
“I am really impressed that it happened here in Connecticut, as normally things like this don’t happen here,” said Troiano, a social worker for Wallingford Public Schools. “It’s great that it’s bringing a little business to our state.”
Connecticut’s inaugural 90s Con was presented by That’s 4 Entertainment. The weekend included panel discussions with sitcom stars, a cosplay contest, a 90s trivia showdown, plenty of music from the era and at least one marriage proposal.
Austin Hardin from Shakopee, Minnesota was standing in line to meet Melissa Joan Hart, who also appeared in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, when the proposal happened.
“I heard some people scream and clapped,” Hardin recalled. “When I turned around, he was on his knees sliding the ring on her finger.”
“….Melissa actually came over to congratulate them,” said Hardin. “I think they all took a picture together.”
