MERIDEN — Police say a city man was killed and another was listed in critical condition after a one-car crash Saturday night.
The crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. in the area of 884 Old Colony Road, near Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Passenger Xavier Alamo, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene and driver Bryon Garcia, 24, was taken to Hartford Hospital, according to Police Lt. Thomas Cossette. Garcia was listed in critical condition.
Evidence suggests Garcia was driving a Honda Civic south on Old Colony at high speed when he lost control, crossed the double yellow line, and crashed into a telephone pole, Cossette said in a statement. The pole struck Alamo, killing him.
Alamo, was found in cardiac arrest, trapped in the front passenger seat, authorities said. Garcia was thrown from the vehicle
Fire Chief Ken Morgan said Sunday that the broken utility pole pulled down some wires.
The Meriden Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is still investigating. Officer Adam Kery is the lead investigator. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 203-630-6215.
