Where to get the best baked goods for the holidays



The holidays have arrived and baked goods are just as essential as all the other foods. After spending your whole week prepping and cooking that big meal for all of your family and friends to indulge in, baking pies probably isn’t something you want to add to that list. These local bakeries have you covered.

Marianna’s Belltop Bakery: 212 W. Main St., Meriden.

Voted RJ’s 2023 Readers’ Choice Award Finalist for Bakery, Marianna’s offers a wide variety of cakes, cookies, and pastries. You can also choose from a selection of pies including sweet potato, apple, pumpkin, key lime, lemon meringue, blueberry, and their customer favorite: cannoli.

They have been serving the community for the past 39 years.

They are open Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (hours may differ due to Thanksgiving and Black Friday); Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and closed Mondays    

They will be open on Thanksgiving, but pre-order is required

Rocco's Village Bakery: 121 Main St., Meriden

Recently opened in July, Rocco’s offers items like brownies, turnovers, rolls, cookies and danishes. The bakery also has a selection of pies including apple, apple crumb, pumpkin, peach, cherry, blueberry, chocolate lemon and coconut custard.

They are open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed Thanksgiving Day

Mozzicato DePasquale Bakery & Pastry Shop: 731 N Colony Road, Wallingford

They offer items like traditional Italian cookies and cakes, as well as the opportunity to choose from a selection of pies including apple, blueberry, cherry, and lemon. They also have pumpkin pie. Or choose from their ricotta raspberry and ricotta nutella pies which are weighed. And lastly are their cream pies, which include chocolate and coconut.

They are open Sunday-Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 8  a.m. to 10 p.m. (hours may differ due to Thanksgiving and Black Friday); and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Azteca Bakery: 23 S Colony St., Wallingford.

Azteca offers traditional Mexican sweet breads, pastries, tres leches cakes, flans, pies, ice cream, coffee, smoothies and more.

Elizabeth's Bakery: 13 William St., Wallingford.

Elizabeth's has been servicing the Wallingford community since 2004, offering a variety of breads, cakes, pastries, and much more. You can choose from a selection of pies like apple, apple crisp, pumpkin, cherry, blueberry, pineapple, pecan, lemon meringue and coconut custard.

Elizabeth's is open Tuesday-Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (hours may differ due to Thanksgiving and Black Friday); Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and closed Mondays

Lewis Farms: 384 Belleview Ave., Southington.

Lewis Farms offers farm fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, ice cream and gifts. They offer a variety of pies including apple, Dutch apple, caramel apple, apple raspberry, pumpkin, blueberry, peach, cherry, banana cream, coconut cream and walnut.

They are open year round, every day, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (hours may differ due to Thanksgiving and Black Friday)

They are closed on Christmas Day.

Rogers Orchards:

Roger’s is a 275-acre family-owned and -run farm with two farmstand locations. The Shuttle Meadow Farm Store is at 336 Long Bottom Road in Southington and the Sunnymount Farm Store is at 2876 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in Plantsville.

Rogers grows and offers Eco-certified fruits, including apples, pears and peaches, bakery products and more. You have the opportunity to choose from a selection of 10-inch pies like apple, peach, and cherry, which are also available in sugar-free. They also have pumpkin, strawberry rhubarb, pecan, fruits of the farm (mixed berry pie) and more.

Both locations are open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (hours may differ due to Thanksgiving and Black Friday)

Lyman Orchards, Middlefield: 105 South St.

Lyman Orchards is a large 1,100-acre family-owned and -run farm. They grow and offer Eco-certified fruits and vegetables, apple cider, specialty foods, bakery products and more.

Lyman also offers an opportunity to choose from a selection of pies like their 12-inch “Hi Top” apple pie, which is a crowd pleaser, as well as bumbleberry, strawberry rhubarb, cherry and apple crumb, which comes in 9- and 6-inch sizes.

They are open Monday-Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (hours may differ due to Thanksgiving and Black Friday).

Heirloom Market at Comstock Ferre, Wethersfield: 263 Main St.

Heirloom is a natural foods grocery store and cafe located at Wethersfield. They have been servicing the Wethersfield community since 2016, offering local, organic, GMO-free groceries and basic household items as well as gardening supplies and Baker Creek’s heirloom seeds. The café features locally roasted coffee and espresso drinks as well as freshly baked pastries, bread, breakfast and lunch sandwiches and more. They also offer a selection of fresh baked pies like chai-spiced pumpkin and chocolate cream.

The pies require 48 hours notice to make it perfect for your holiday table. Order online or in store.

This bakery has been servicing the Thomaston community since 2011 offering a full assortment of desserts including custom cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, pies, and more made to order, fresh and daily. Get the opportunity to choose from a selection of deep dish pies like apple, apple cranberry, blueberry crisp, cherry crisp, strawberry and triple berry. They also make cream pies like banana cream and chocolate banana cream and more.
