HAMDEN — A Meriden teen faces charges in connection with a shooting on Oberlin Road in May last year.
The same teen, who is not being identified by authorities because of his age, was also charged in connection to another shooting the following day, and was found with a loaded handgun in June 2021, police said.
On Tuesday the Meriden teen was charged with first-degree assault. unlawful discharge of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was held at a juvenile detention center and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court for Juvenile Matters on May 31.
On May 26, 2021 around 6 p.m. Hamden police responded to the area of Oberlin Road for a report of gunshots, police spokesman Sgt. Sean Dolan said.
Officers found ballistic evidence in the road and were notified that a 22-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries due to gunshot wounds, Dolan said.
Police investigating determined the 22-year-old was in a parked vehicle on Oberlin Road and was shot at by another person in a vehicle that was being driven on the road.
Police said the juvenile charged Tuesday in connection with the May 26 shooting was previously charged in connection with a shooting on May 27, 2021. He was also arrested on June 3, 2021 after being found with a loaded handgun that had an obliterated serial number, Dolan said.
The handgun that was seized in connection to the June 2021 incident was forensically analyzed and connected to the Oberlin Road shooting, Dolan said.
