Police: Meriden man struck Mohegan police cruiser

BOZRAH — A Meriden man faces charges after police said he struck a Mohegan Tribal Police cruiser then fled on Thanksgiving while illegally possessing a firearm. 

Jean Carlos Colon, 26, of 455 Broad St., Apt. 1e, was charged Nov. 25 with criminal possession of a firearm, interfering with police, illegal carrying of a firearm under the influence, operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs and operation under suspension. 

On Thanksgiving around 7:15 a.m. state police were notified by Mohegan Tribal Police that the driver of a Mini Cooper, later identified as Colon, had struck a tribal police cruiser that was attempting to conduct a traffic stop. The incident happened Route 2 west near exit 22.

Colon’s bond was set at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Dec. 9.
