MERIDEN — A local man faces charges after police said he sexually assaulted a juvenile over a number of years.

Woodley Ward, 41, of 75 Reservoir Ave., was charged Thursday with four counts of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of fourth-degree sexual assault, and five counts of illegal sexual contact with a minor.

The police investigation began in October 2019 after the juvenile reported being sexually assaulted to a school guidance counselor. The juvenile told police the abuse had been ongoing for about five years, according to Ward’s arrest warrant.

Ward, who is known to the juvenile, was identified as a suspect, according to an arrest report. In an interview with police, Ward initially denied the allegations, but later admitted to the charges, the warrant said.

Ward was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. A judge set bond at $250,000.
