Man charged with assault, burglary in domestic incident in Meriden

MERIDEN — A Waterbury man faces charges after police said he assaulted a woman after breaking into her home.

Chrishawn Johnson, 43, of 297 Geddes Terrace, Waterbury, was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief, violation of a protective order and disorderly conduct.

Police were called to a home on North Colony Road late Wednesday night for a report of a intoxicated person forcing his way into home. A woman, who said Johnson was the father of her child, reported he broke through the front door and assaulted her, according to a police report.  Police noticed the front door had extensive damage.

Police found Johnson holding a four-month-old child, which he turned over to the woman, the report said. Johnson told police he did not assault the woman or break through the door.

Johnson was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. According to statements in court, he has a pending case for domestic violence and previous convictions for assault and drug charges. The judge set bond at $75,000 and continued the case to May 7.
