MERIDEN — Police are investigating after a man accidentally shot his 17-year-old son Friday afternoon.
Police responded to 72 Forest Ave. for a reported shooting just after 3 p.m. Officers found the teen at the scene with a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest/shoulder, Lt. Darrin McKay said in a statement.
Police determined the teen was shot by his father, who was showing him a 9mm handgun, McKay said. The father was planning to get the teen acclimated with firearms to begin firearm training at a local gun range, McKay said. No one else was struck or injured.
The teen was taken by ambulance to MidState Medical Center and then taken by LifeStar to a trauma center. The investigation is ongoing and officers are at the scene.
