MERIDEN — Following a successful year with one business, a Meriden native is venturing into another.
Deja Durant is preparing to open a new bar and lounge, Tequila Galore, before the end of next month. It will feature high end tequila from around the world.
“Tequila is my favorite type of liquor,” Durant said. “I know a lot of people like it as well, so I wanted to bring a bar to the city where people can come and enjoy their favorite kind of tequila.”
Customers can also watch a game, enjoy bar food and other types of alcoholic drinks.
Deja’s brother, Drew Durant, is a co-owner of Tequila Galore. Brandon Preston is the bar manager.
Tequila Galore is located at 575 N. Colony Road, formerly home to the Red Room Grille, which closed in June 2018.
Durant recently celebrated the one year anniversary of his restaurant, Mind, Body and Soul Food on West Main Street.
“I always knew I was going to do more than the restaurant,” he said. “Business has been going so well, I have been able to take the profit from the restaurant and put that into Tequila Galore.”
Tequila Galore is located near Scotty O’Boyles Pub. Manager Lindsay Boyle is excited for the new business.
“I’m very happy for them,” she said. “I’ve known the owners for a while and the business will bring a new crowd to the area.”
Durant said he will celebrate the new business with a grand opening event. Once he gets Tequila Galore up and running, he has more plans for the future.
“I am born and raised in Meriden,” Durant said. “If I’m going to open a business, it’s going to be in my hometown. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.”
