Cheshire police investigating after woman found dead off trail

CHESHIRE — Police are investigating after a woman was found dead on an embankment off the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail Tuesday.

Authorities are investigating the incident as an untimely death, Lt. Michael Durkee said. Police did not immediately identify the woman.

Officers responded to the area of School House Road and West Johnson Avenue around 9:30 a.m., Lt. Michael Durkee said, after receiving a report about suspicious items.

The woman was found about 70 feet off the trail, and local detectives requested the assistance of the State Police Major Crimes Division.

A section of the trail was closed but reopened about 6 p.m.
