Cheshire police identify man killed in crash last week on Waterbury Road

CHESHIRE — Police identified the local man that died in a two-vehicle crash Friday on Waterbury Road.

Thomas Goerg, 58, of Cheshire, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, Lt. Michael Durkee said Tuesday morning. The other driver, identified as Ryan Sheehan, 38, of Cheshire, sustained significant, non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers were taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.

Both drivers needed to be extricated from their vehicles, police said. A child in a safety seat in one of the vehicles did not need to be extricated and suffered reported minor injuries.

The accident happened just after noon.

Police said the regional Naugatuck Valley Crash Investigation Team is investigating the cause.
