Veteran BPD dispatcher honored

Berlin Police Department dispatcher Thomas Farr was called upon to do a great deal of work in late 2021, and his efforts did not go unnoticed. He was named the Berlin PD’s “Employee of the Quarter” for the fourth quarter of 2021.

“Due to the retirement of our administrative dispatcher, a number of duties and responsibilities needed to be completed and Tom stepped up and filled that void,” a press release from Deputy Chief Chris Ciuci states. “Tom is always willing to answer, assist and research any question or problem that arises. He willingly took on additional work, which has allowed our communications unit to seamlessly and effectively continue to function at a high level.”

Farr has been with the Berlin PD for more than 17 years. He also serves as chief of the East Berlin Volunteer Fire Department.

Announcing the “Employee of the Quarter,” Ciuci pointed out that Farr has coordinated the Berlin PD’s communications training program for new dispatchers, and has become an administrator for the department’s computer aided dispatch (CAD) and records management system (RMS).

Also, Farr “spent weeks” working with Hunter’s Ambulance to correct an issue the department had with transferring 911 calls. “Dispatcher Farr created several back-up transfer lines in case there were failures of the main line and trouble-shot a number of issues, off-duty and from home, in order to resolve the issue,” Ciuci said.
