TUESDAY TENNIS: LH boys, Sheehan & Maloney girls dust off the brooms; Southington boys edged in Glastonbury



EAST HAVEN — The Lyman Hall boys tennis team evened its mark at 6-6 with a 7-0 SCC sweep of East Haven on Tuesday afternoon.

The feature match was at No. 1 doubles, where Lyman Hall’s top combination of Jared Cervero and Jake Lynn rallied to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Brian Fernando and Alex Zelaya took the No. 2 match for the Trojans 6-0, 6-1. Brady Campbell and Jackson Mailhot prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.

Singles winners for LH were No. 1 Corey Flynn (7-5, 6-2), No. 2 Zach Marchi-Guasp (6-1, 6-0), No. 3 Colin DeBaise (7-5, 6-4) and No. 4 Evan Smith (6-0, 6-4).

Glastonbury 4, Southington 3: A sweep of doubles got the Tomahawks out to a 3-0 lead that the Blue Knights could not quite overcome in this CCC West battle in Glastonbury.

Three of the matches went to a super-tiebreaker. Southington took two: at No. 1 singles, where Matt Balaoing rallied 1-6, 6-4, 10-8, and at No. 2, where Marek Kryzanski ground out a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 decision.

The Blue Knights also got a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles from Kyle Narowol.

Southington’s No. 3 doubles team of Tyler Heidgerd and Jacob Sutton fell 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 in the other super-tiebreaker match.

Southington is 7-2, Glastonbury 6-1.

Girls tennis

Maloney 7, Bulkeley/HMTCA 0: The Spartans came home from Hartford at 7-4 with the CCC sweep. They dropped just three sets.

No. 1 Madison Clancy, No. 2 Alissa Hoffman, No. 3 Aryana Agli and No. 4 Kaitlyn Valentine had the singles wins.

Abby and Haley Lespier led the doubles sweep. Julia Owens and Samanta Pirruccio had the win at No. 2. Sabrina Vaillancourt and Hillary Lim capped it at No. 3.

Bristol Eastern 6, Platt 1: Julia Bessler had the lone win for the Panthers in the CCC South matchup in Meriden.

Via a super-tiebreaker, Bessler captured No. 4 singles 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.

The No. 1 singles match also went to a super-tiebreaker. Julia Misner dropped that one 6-2, 3-6, 10-5.

Sheehan 7, West Haven 0: Grace Waldron’s 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles highlighted the Titans’ SCC victory at West Haven’s Painter Park.

No. 1 Srivani Agnihotram (6-1, 6-1), No. 3 Allyssa Cassella (6-2, 6-1) and No. 4 Shreya Patel (6-2, 6-3) also put up singles victories as Sheehan improved to 6-6.

At doubles, Crystal Gallagher and Caroline Dighello combined for a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 1. Olivia Robles and Rishima Patel were 6-0, 6-1 winners at No. 2. Jordyn Allen and Daytona Scherb chalked up a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 3.

Mercy 7, Lyman Hall 0: The Trojans fell to 8-5 with the SCC home loss at Doolittle Park. Mercy is 4-6.

Two matches went three sets. Lyman Hall’s Kiera Farley fell 6-2. 2-6, 10-6 at No. 4 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Nicole Nicefaro and Abbey Pallas succumbed 7-5, 5-7, 6-0.
