THURSDAY SCHOLASTICS: Sheehan baseball boards postseason train; Cheshire girls lax closes at 15-1, takes No. 1 seed into SCC tourney

BURLINGTON — The Sheehan baseball team bolted out of the gate with five runs in the top of the first inning and pitchers Arthur Cordes and Caden Cloutier made the lead stand up in a 6-3 non-conference victory over Lewis Mills on Thursday.

With the win, the Titans improved to 8-11 and secured a Class M state tournament berth. With Sheehan in, all seven area baseball teams have qualified for the postseason this spring.

Joe Romano and Adam Leone banged out two hits apiece to lead the attack against Lewis Mills. Anthony Romano and Bill Gorry drove in two runs apiece.

On the hill, Cordes went the first four innings to get the win. He allowed three hits and three runs.

Cloutier threw three scoreless frames in relief, allowing two hits.

Sheehan travels across Wallingford to face Lyman Hall in the regular-season finale on Friday night at Pat Wall Field.

Girls lacrosse

Cheshire 20, North Haven 6: The Rams led 14-0 at halftime in this SCC matchup in Cheshire. 

Annie Eddy scored seven goals. Raegan Bailey had a hat trick.

Cheshire completed the regular season at 15-1 and takes the No. 1 seed into the SCC Tournament.

Golf

Wilcox Tech: The Indians shot a 183 over the front nine at Hunter Golf Club to sweep Ellis Tech (218) and Norwich Tech (255).

Ryan Pellegrino had the medal with a 40. Colin Fletcher was clutch with a 43. Cole Maluszewski carded a 45 and Chris Brunetti came in with a 55.

Wilcox Tech improved to 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the CTC. 

It was only the second loss for Ellis Tech (13-2-1, 8-2-1 CTC). Norwich Tech is 7-6 and 7-5.

Maloney 204, Bristol Eastern 227: Matt Bahre continued his strong play, earning another medal with a 44 to lead the Spartans past the Lancers in a CCC South match at Hunter Golf Club.

The Spartans also got scoring from Josh Farnsworth (49), Kory London (51) and Blake Gibertoni (60) in improving to 6-8 overall and 5-6 in the CCC South.
