MONDAY SCHOLASTICS: McKnerney’s the man as Southington tops Cheshire at The Farms; Lyman Hall deals Wilcox Tech first defeat; Sheehan girls lax stays in the groove

WALLINGFORD — Southington’s Shawn McKnerney was the lone golfer to go under 40 in Monday’s Southington-Cheshire rivalry match at The Farms Country Club.

McKnerney’s 39 earned the medal and carried the Blue Knights to a 168-179 non-conference victory over the host Rams.

Austin Carta carded a 42 for the Blue Knights (6-2). Jake Napoli shot a 43 and Cory Hemsen sealed it with a 44.

The Rams were paced by Justin Grove’s 43. Kyle Sheehan and Nick Fortunato both came in at 45. Colby Brabant shot a 46.

Amity 176, Sheehan 191: Amity’s Dan Comeau and Sheehan’s Julian Nirmal shared the medal at 40 in this SCC match at Oak Lawn Country Club.

Will Talarico came in with a 48 for the Titans (3-7). Corey Savanelli shot a 50 and Ryan Carey carded a 53.

Amity improved to 2-6-1.

Lyman Hall 198, Wilcox Tech 201: The Tribe’s Ryan Pellegrino took the medal with a 46, but it was the Trojans who captured the overall match in this non-conference border battle on the front nine at Wallingford Country Club.

And with the decision, LH (4-5) handed Wilcox (12-1) its first defeat of the season.

The host Trojans got scoring from Owen Twohill (47), Dan Doherty (49), Zach Wolansky (50) and Jamie O’Connell (52).

Wilcox Tech’s Cole Maluszewski tied Twohill for second with a 47. Colin Fletcher fired a 50. Chris Brunetti finished with a 58.

Girls lacrosse

Hall 11, Southington 10: Talie Richardson tallied four goals for the Blue Knights in the CCC North loss in West Hartford.

Sarah Mafale (2 goals), Emma Doran (goal, 3 assists), Kayli Garcia (goal, 2 assists), Amy Chudy (goal, assists, 6 draw controls) and Karolina Kurzatkowska (goal) provided the rest of the offense for Southington (7-5).

Mackenzie Brown stoned 11 shots in net for the Blue Knights.

Chloe Nordyke had a hat trick to power Hall (6-5).

Sheehan 15, West Haven 3: Carlee Crispens continued her scoring spree with four more goals in this SCC contest in West Haven.

Crispens wasn’t alone as the Titans peppered the Blue Devils’ net with seven goals in the first half and eight more in the final 25 minutes.

Allie Ottochian (3 goals), Madi Gaynor (2 goals, 2 assists), Alexa Alchimio (2 goals), Sam Hart (goal, 2 assists), Renae Musco (goal), Amelia Mansfield (goal), Kiley Allardice (goal), Claire Viola (3 assists) and Mallory Crispens (2 assists) added to the attack as Sheehan improved to 9-4.

Kaitlin and Mia Mills combined for seven saves to knock West Haven to 2-11.

Boys volleyball

Hall 3, Maloney 2: Michael Coitrone collected 17 kills and made four blocks in a CCC West five-setter in West Hartford.

Game scores were 27-25, 23-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 16-14.

Jaybril Pagan had a big night with 36 assists and 27 digs. Devin Juan piled up 29 digs.

The Spartans are 2-13, the Warriors 4-7.

Cheshire 3, Masuk 0: Colby Hayes filled the stat sheet with seven kills, seven blocks, three digs and an ace to power the Rams to the non-conference win at home.

Cheshire improved to 10-4 by game scores of 25-13, 26-24 and 25-16.

Luke Pinciaro (23 assists, 2 digs), Aidan Godfrey (7 kills), Tom Bonitz (6 kills, 2 aces) and Conor Guilford (3 kills, 2 blocks) also made key contributions for the Rams.

The Panthers fell to 7-7.
