ICE HOCKEY: Hall-Southington routs Masuk, wins fifth straight; Wallingford squads gear up for rematch

SHELTON — The Hall-Southington hockey team was an avalanche Tuesday in racking up its fifth straight victory with an 8-0 romp over Masuk at The Rinks at Shelton.

Once the ball got rolling, look out.

The Warrior-Knights piled up 36 shots on net — in the third period alone. They had 64 on the game, led by 12 from Andrew Mitchell that produced his first career hat trick.

The weird thing is the game was scoreless after one period. Hall-Southington didn’t get on the board in the opening minutes of the second period.

Miles Aronow scored twice. Jake Albert and Andrew Booth added single goals. Kent Silva capped it with his first career goal.

Zach Monti and Harry Freda combined for the shutout in net.

The Warrior-Knights now stand at 10-4-1 and rank No. 8 in the CIAC Division II playoff rankings. They visit rival Newington Co-op at the Newington Ice Arena on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Trojans, Titans back in action tonight

WALLINGFORD — The Lyman Hall Co-op hockey team returns to action Wednesday evening looking to halt on a two-game slide, while rival Sheehan hits the road looking to extend a six-game winning streak.

The Trojans (12-5) will host Bethel-Brookfield-Danbury (6-8-1) at the Northford Ice Pavilion at 6;15 p.m. The Titans (13-2) face off with the Eastern CT Eagles (10-2-2) at Connecticut College at 8 p.m.

These games are prelude to the LH/Sheehan rivalry rematch on Saturday night. The Trojans edged the Titans 3-2 in overtime on Jan. 13. Saturday’s second round is at Northford at 7:45 p.m.
