MERIDEN — Russell Lozowski and Greg Peruti smashed down 14 kills apiece as the Maloney boys volleyball team chalked up a 3-1 CCC South victory over Bulkeley on Friday evening.
It was a battle. Maloney won by game scores of 26-24, 27-25, 23-25 and 25-21
Lozowski added 10 digs to finish with a double-double, while Peruti served up six aces.
Devin Juan had a team-high 23 digs. Jaybril Pagan directed the attack with 40 assists and also got to five digs.
Cheshire 3, Xavier 0: Aidan Godfrey totaled 11 kills, two digs and two aces for the Rams in the SCC victory at home.
Game scores were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-11.
Cheshire improved to 12-4 on the season.
Colby Hayes (9 kills, 4 digs) and Luke Pinciaro (27 assists) also performed well in the sweep for the Rams.
Xavier dropped to 3-12.
Plainville 219, Maloney 278: Josh Farnsworth and Matt Bahre carded team-leading 51’s for the Spartans in a CCC South tilt at Hawks Landing.
Blake Gilbertoni (59) and Kory London (67) rounded out the scoring for Maloney (4-7 overall, 4-5 South).
Jacob Deschaine was medalist with a 48 for the Blue Devis (6-4, 6-3).
Cheshire 7, East Haven 0: The Rams improved to 11-5 with the SCC sweep on their home courts.
Cheshire won 8-0 in each match. Singles winners were No. 1 Utsav Subramani, No. 2 Yasha Laskin, No. 3 Yasin Tarabar and No. 4 Ty Mann.
The winning tandems in doubles were No. 1 Nate Pisani and Ben Fritz, No. 2 Josh Goldstein and Matt Pisani, and No. 3 Keith Arneson and Christian Kjeldsen.
Manchester 7, Platt 0: The best contest of the day in this CCC crossover in Meriden came at No. 3 doubles, where Platt’s Jack and Will Suzio fell 6-3, 6-3 to Ethan Hughes and Faiz Lilaporia in a match that was long on extended rallies, close points and good net coverage.
Manchester is 8-3, Platt 5-7.
Southington 7, Windsor 0: The Blue Knights won all three doubles matches 6-0, 6-0 in posting the CCC crossover sweep in Southington.
Kate Hardy and Isa Miani teamed at No. 1. Gianna Wadowski and Avery Korp were at No. 2. Jillian Watson and Ali Bruce combined at No. 3.
At singles, Abby Murphy battled to a 7-5 decision in the first set at No. 1, then took command 6-0 in the second.
Chantelle Gimenez rolled 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Riley Tindall was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3.
Alina Rivera got the start at No. 4 and delivered a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
The Lady Knights are now 10-3.
