Expos top Phils, move into first
SOUTH WINDSOR — Charlie Hesseltine pitched six shutout innings and Ben Maycock ripped a solo homer and two-run double to lead the Record-Journal Expos to a 5-1 victory over the South Windsor Phillies in a Greater Hartford Twilight Baseball League game Friday night at Larry Duprey Field.
With the win, the Expos improved to 5-1 and moved into first place a half game ahead of 5-2 People’s United Bank and the defending champion Vernon Orioles.
Against the Phillies, Maycock provided the bulk of the offense with his solo blast in the fifth and his two-run insurance double in the seventh. At the time, that double extend the R-J’s lead to 5-0.
Hesseltine, who had allowed just two hits and no walks through six innings, gave up a lead-off double in the seventh and gave way to Sean Rivera. A wild pitch put the South Windsor runner in position to score on a ground out. Rivera got the last two outs from there.Spartans staging girls hoop camp
