TUESDAY SWIMMING: Local squads come up on the short end

Area boys swimming teams had a hard-luck Tuesday in the pool, with Southington, the Meriden Co-op and the Lyman Hall Co-op all dropping dual meets. Here’s the rundown.

Conard 93, Southington 87: The Chieftains clipped the Blue Knights in a CCC West meet at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford.

Chase Galayda won diving for Southington with 226.05 points.

Brendon Egan was first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.73). Tyler Heidgerd, Quint Kimmel, Brian Egan and Evan Bender teamed for a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:39.16).

Southington is 5-3.

Middletown 116, Meriden Co-op 70: The city squad fell to 3-8 overall and 0-2-1 in the CCC South with the divisional loss to the Blue Dragons at Platt.

Julio Hernandez did have a strong showing for Meriden. The Platt junior won the 200 freestyle (1:59.39) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.92).

Maloney junior Jake Donlan took first place in the 100 butterfly (1:02.93).

Xavier 95, Lyman Hall/Coginchaug 80: The Division I Falcons topped the Division II Trojans in a SCC crossover meet at Sheehan.

The Co-op’s two Connors, Tsolis and Zolnik, earned first-place points for the Trojans. Tsolis won the 50 freestyle in 24:08 and Zolnik took diving with 114.40 points.

LH now stands at 2-10. The annual rivalry meet with Sheehan is next Friday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
