Bridal expo showcases Wallingford businesses

WALLINGFORD — Local brides-to-be browsed through an array of wedding gowns, floral arrangements and wedding services at the Second Annual Bridal Expo.

The Expo was hosted Saturday by the HUBCAP Center, 128 Center St., and featured, raffles, gift bags and live music. Local businesses showcased products and services with promotions for brides and bridal parties.

Event organizer and HUBCAP board member M.J. Kloc said guests had the opportunity to schedule appointments and consult with 12 different vendors, including bakeries, floral shops, salons, bridal shops and wedding photographers.

“It’s a lot of fun working with these local businesses,” Kloc said. “We really want to focus on supporting local business here in the Wallingford community.”

Kloc, a Wallingford native, said the purpose of the event is to make brides aware of local options when planning a wedding.

“We have bridal gowns and brides can actually try on dresses her,” Kloc said. “We have fitting rooms, mirrors, the whole thing.”

Jacqueline Bridal Kouture showcased several bridal gowns, mother of the bride and flower girl dresses. Owner Jackie Torres said she has attended larger bridal expos in the past and didn’t have as much time to spend speaking with each bride.

“It’s a little more comfy talking to the bride,” Torres said. “This is a little bit more of a person to person situation.”

Local resident Jennifer Fretts, who is getting married in July, attended the expo because she tries to shop local whenever she can.

“I’m excited to see the local business and what Wallingford has to offer,” she said.
