Wallingford barber shop relocates to larger space on Route 5

WALLINGFORD — The owner of a local barber shop says he moved to another location on Route 5 because his business needed more space.

Classic Cutz Barber Shop moved from 192 N. Colony Road to 35 N. Colony Road about three weeks ago. The shop offers straight razor shaves, fades and hot towel shaves.

“We just needed more space,” said owner David Ortiz. “We kind of outgrew the other spot and this was the closest location that we can find from there.”

Barber Frank Veder has worked at the shop for nearly 10 years.

“We were pretty cramped up in the last place,” Veder said. “I couldn’t even spin my chair around full circle.”

The new location is double the size of the previous location, with an additional 400 square feet of space.

Ortiz was grateful to be able to transition between spaces without closing the shop.

“We had everything ready and then we just shifted all the chairs and the stations over (to the new location),” Ortiz said

Ortiz has eight barbers. He owns a second location at 2551 Whitney Ave. in Hamden and would like to eventually open a third location.

“We’ve looked into plenty of towns,” Ortiz said. “We’ve looked into Southington… We try to go to places where there is a demand.”
