Police: Man punched pizza restaurant employee in the head

WALLINGFORD — A local man faces charges after police said he punched an employee of Hometown Pizza Sunday night.

William Wood, 37, of 283 S. Orchard St., Wallingford, was charged Sunday with third-degree assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Police were called to Hometown Pizza, 314 Main St., around 9:25 p.m. An employee told officers that after being asked to leave at closing time, Wood became irate, punching an employee in the head, according to a police report.  Security video confirmed the account of the employee.

Wood was taken into custody and arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Monday. According to statements in court, he has no criminal record. The judge released him on a promise to appear with the condition he does not enter Hometown Pizza. The case was continued to July 15.
