Waterbury man hospitalized after crash on I-91 in Cromwell



A Waterbury man was ejected from his vehicle in an accident on Interstate 91 south in Cromwell Sunday afternoon and hospitalized with serious injuries, according to an accident report from the Connecticut State Police.

Nicolaus Isiah Rivera, 23, of Pleasant Street in Waterbury, drove his Ford Explorer Sport onto Interstate 91 south coming off Route 9 north Sunday afternoon. His vehicle crossed all travel lanes, struck a road barrier and then struck the passenger side of another vehicle. Rivera was ejected from the Explorer during the collision with the barrier, state police said. He was transported by ambulance to Hartford Hospital.

The four people in the other vehicle reported no injuries. Police are still investigating. The crash was reported at about 3 p.m. and closed a section of the highway until about 8:15 p.m.
