Fallen tree damages utility poles, power lines on Meriden Avenue in Southington



 

SOUTHINGTON — More than 1,000 local Eversource Energy customers were without power Monday after a tree fell and damaged utility poles and power lines on Meriden Avenue.

Police responded to the area of 905 Meriden Ave. about 1 p.m. after a tree fell across the road and damaged power lines and utility poles, said Police Lt. Stephen Elliott

Meriden Avenue was closed from East Street to Stuart Drive and East Street was closed from the intersection of South Plains Road to Meriden Avenue. Police detoured traffic in the area. 

By 2:30 p.m., 974 power outages were reported in town. Power was fully restored by about 3:30 p.m.
