The Elizabeth Harding Norton Trust, and what is now the Wheeler Clinic, received a significant portion of this funding.
The stated purpose of the Elizabeth Harding Norton Trust: “This Trust is created and shall be operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, or educational purposes, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals, within the United States or any of its possessions; provided, that the central purpose of this trust shall (at all times, however, within the above limitations), be to promote the well-being of the inhabitants of the community comprising the town of Plainville and vicinity.”
Since its inception in 1986 the Elizabeth Harding Trust has been managed by volunteer Trustees, who annually request and review grant applications from area not for profit organizations providing services outlined within the charter of the Trust.
