NORTH HAVEN — The opening of new fitness center in a Route 5 plaza has been delayed until the end of the year.
Washington Commons plaza owner Joe Moruzzi said Surge Fitness, originally scheduled to open in April, is now on track to open in November or December.
The delay was caused because of “some extra things” with the plans, Moruzzi said.
The 25,000 square foot fitness center is part of Moruzzi’s revitalization effort to update and fill vacant storefronts.
Moruzzi said crews are finishing sheetrocking the fitness area and will start tiling soon. He’s happy with the “beautiful light” thanks to large windows.
“It's just impressive,” Moruzzi said in late May.
Interior painting, ceiling fans and lighting will be done next, he said.
Moruzzi said almost all the plaza’s units are rented, including new tenants ilovekickboxing.com and Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union.
The plaza’s two-floor, 6,000- square-foot restaurant space is still available for lease. Washington Commons is located at 117 Washington Ave.
