NORTH HAVEN — Police have obtained warrants to process evidence from a Ford sedan following a fatal hit and run on  Monday night.

Maureen Munzner, 57, was walking with her two children in the area of 1500 Ridge Road when she was struck by a red Ford Fusion. The car fled and Munzner was pronounced dead soon after the crash.

A short time later, a man called 911 to report he struck a deer on Mount Carmel Road with his 2008 red Ford Fusion, police said. The car had serious front-end damage and a smashed windshield.

The car was seized and police obtained search warrants for the man’s cell phone records and the vehicle. Officers are investigating with assistance from the State Attorney’s Office, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the state forensic laboratory.

“The deceased victim and her family are owed an appropriate investigation, and our efforts will result in determining all of the facts associated with this tragedy,” police said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information pertaining to the crash is asked to call police.
