Police: Meriden man shot, killed neighbor's dog with BB gun

MERIDEN — A city man faces charges after police said he shot and killed his neighbor’s dog with a BB gun last month.

Thomas Trunik, 68, of 167 Lydale Place, was charged Dec. 1 with unlawful discharge of a firearm and killing a companion animal.

Police responded to Lydale Place on Nov. 13 about 8:40 p.m. Officers determined Trunik, a neighbor of the dog’s owner, shot the dog with a BB gun, Sgt. John Mennone said. Trunik told police he misidentified the dog as another animal.

The dog died from its injuries, Mennone said.

Trunik was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 14.
