MERIDEN — A man is in stable condition after a shooting on Curtis Street Wednesday afternoon.
Sgt. John Mennone described the man’s injuries as “non-life threatening.” He was conscious when he was taken to Hartford Hospital and, as of Thursday, was in stable condition and cooperating with officers.
The suspect, who Mennone said was a man known to police, fled on foot and was at large Thursday. Officers said they believed the gunshots and the man’s injuries were prompted by a domestic dispute.
“The general public is safe,” Mennone said Wednesday. “We have multiple resources here on scene, there is no concern for anyone in the area at this particular time.”
Officers with rifles and police dogs were seen canvassing the area Wednesday afternoon. A section of a sidewalk was cordoned off with yellow tape.
Witnesses said they heard between one and four gunshots. Mennone said city police are being assisted by state police and other agencies.
