Crews set to film Christmas movie at former Meriden armory

MERIDEN — Crews are filming scenes in the Meriden area for a Christmas movie set to be released next year.

David Gere, producer for “My Adventures With Santa,” said filming has and will take place in Meriden, Cromwell, and Middletown until November.

The movie is scheduled to be released in November 2019 by Los Angeles-based production company Hollywood Media Bridge in association with the Connecticut based production company Shadow Vale Productions. It will have a limited release in theaters, with a worldwide digital and DVD release at Walmart, Target, and on Amazon.

The movie stars Denise Richards, Patrick Muldoon, Jamie Luner, and Barbara Eden, who will play Mrs. Claus.

On Friday, crews filmed scenes inside the attic of a 19th century home in Middletown. The 455 East Street location was adorned with holiday decorations for the movie.

Gere said filming at the Meriden Armory, 241 E. Main St., is set to begin this week. Scenes will be shot in the interior of the building, which will be transformed into Santa’s workshop and the evil elf’s lair.

“It’s a really unique, amazing space,” Gere said. “I have known Wayne (Barneschi, owner of the armory) for years and we’ve talked about working together for a while.”

Barneschi has been working for five years to transform the former armory into a haunted attraction – “Armory of Darkness.” He believes having the armory featured in a movie will benefit the site.

“I think it’s the intention of the building when we bought do something like this,” Barneschi said.

Gere said there will be an open casting call in Meriden for movie extras.

Gere said he is also considering the armory as a filming location for an upcoming horror movie next year.

“It’s a very unique city and the armory is so dynamic, interesting and unusual,” Gere said.
